A new edition of BenRiach's 12 Year Old Sherry Wood expression, which is matured in sherry casks, and then finished in a combination of Pedro Ximénez and Oloroso sherry casks.
The whisky was originally bottled as an exclusive for Taiwan, but despite global demand it was discontinued three years ago due to a shortage of Sherry casks.
Now the Speyside distillery has chosen to reintroduce the expression as part of its unpeated flagship range.
The combination of Oloroso and Pedro Ximenez Sherry casks gives a wonderful balance of mocha and dark chocolate interwoven with figs, sultanas, vanilla, fruits and rich spices.
Nose: Cooked apple drizzled in crème de cassis, brown sugar and zesty orange.
Palate: Fig, blackcurrant jam, apricot, slowly building Christmas spice and continued vanilla.
Finish: Soft ginger root spiciness.
