The 2022 edition of Douglas Laing's Big Peat at Christmas! Something which has become to be an annual festive treat from the cracking indie bottler.
Big Peat at Christmas expressions are bottled at cask strength, but this year's edition is a little different to the previous ones as it features whiskies from every active distillery on the Isle of Islay, plus the long-closed, elusive and exclusive Port Ellen Distillery.
Big Peat Christmas 2022 is bottled at Natural Cask Strength at 54.2% and proudly without colouring or chill filtration meaning the whisky retains it's original colour, aroma and taste.
Nose: Plenty of oily smoke, hints of charred herbs, with salted nuts and spiced currant buns in tow.
Palate: Bonfire embers and black pepper crackle alongside charred herbs, lifted by flamed citrus peels, before more hearty peat smoke drifts in.
Finish: Earthy charcoal and vegetal peat linger, with tarry, coastal breeze and dense, oily malt.
