History

Founded by Don Francisco E. Fonseca, the brand was officially registered in 1907, though Don Francisco began making cigars in Havana as early as the 1890s. A visionary in both cigar blending and presentation, Fonseca introduced the now-iconic Japanese paper and foil wrapping to protect cigars from humidity and environmental shifts - a tradition that continues to define the brand to this day.

After Don Francisco’s passing in 1929, his wife Teresa carried on the legacy, eventually merging the business into Castañeda, Montero, Fonseca SA. Today, Fonseca Cuban cigars are produced at the Lazaro Peña factory in Havana and remain a popular choice in Canada and Spain, offering refined quality at a more accessible price point than many other Cuban cigars.
