Torano Reserva Decadencia Robusto Cigar single untubed

The Torano Reserva Decadencia is a very interesting cigar, one that has intrigued me for a while, a premium cigar blended with California Port Wine. Using the same blend as their 90-rated Torano Reserva Selecta cigars - Dominican, Honduran, and Nicaraguan longfiller, Indonesian binder - the cigars are aged in the same French oak barrels used to age Wilson Creek Winery's award-winning Decadencia Chocolate Port.

The Pre-Light

Torano Reserva Decadencia Port Robusto Prelight Looking at the Robusto sized cigar it is obvious that this is not your usual "flavoured cigar." The construction is flawless; nice, smooth colorado claro wrapper with no lumps, bumps or marks down it and presented in individual glass tubes. The cigar itself has a lovely soft, spongey feel to it and with a length of 5 inches and a ring gauge of 50, it's a full sized, premium cigar but with an innovative twist.

Once you open up the tube, immediately you are introduced to a rich, strong port aroma with notes of chocolate, it's like no cigar I've smelt before. After a quick, clean cut the pre-light has a satisfyingly easy draw with definite notes of port, time to fire it up...

The First Third

Torano Reserva Decadencia Port Robusto First Third Wow, what can I say, I was not expecting that! Straight away this cigar is superb, a draw that's spot on for me; not too easy but requires no effort to fill your mouth with LOADS of thick, smooth smoke. You can definitely taste the port in the blend but it is not overpowering. They seem to have got the balance absolutely perfect, excellent blend of classic, mild tobacco flavours with a very gentle spice kick from the Nicaraguan tobacco, rounded off with that amazing porty finish. I really am impressed.

The burn is pretty consistent, only a very minor touch up to the wrapper and the ash holds well.

The Second Third

Torano Reserva Decadencia Port Robusto Second Third This cigar has been such a pleasant surprise, the flavours start to intensify through the second third but still remain perfectly balanced like a Japanese knife. As the slightly spicey notes picks up, so do the flavour of Port which linger on the palate and are very prominent in the aroma. An absolute delight with no harshness or bitterness.

The ash held to about half way down the cigar before falling and after another very minor touch up the burn continues to go well.

The Final Third

Torano Reserva Decadencia Port Robusto Final Third The delights of this cigar just keep on going into the final third. It's nice and soft and there are still plumes and plumes of smoke coming off it but with no trace of bitterness or harshness. The tobacco flavours are really rich down the end but still remain fairly mild in strength. Not much left in the way of port but a very satisfying, long finish.

The Conclusion

This is not a flavoured cigar, it carefully and precisely uses port in the blend to create something entirely new. The flavours work absolutely perfectly together with neither the port, Nicaraguan spice or rich, creamy tobacco flavours being too overpowering to the others, the complexity definitely tells you they have worked long and hard to get this absolutely spot on. I thoroughly recommend adding one of these to your next order as it is a completely new experience, one that everyone should try.

A solid 4 our of 5 star for me, I do prefer a strong cigar though so probably a 5 star smoke if you generally prefer a medium bodied cigar.

Experience one for yourself here.
