Champagne party at Turmeaus tobacconist of Liverpool
The
oldest tobacconist shop in Merseyside and the second oldest in
the UK.
Members of the press and the trade were invited to a protest
evening against the Liverpool City Council private bill to
parliament to ban smoking in the work place.
Cigars were cut lit and presented by the Havana Hunnies and
champagne and buffet dinner was enjoyed by all.

Though the company has changed hands over its 186 year existence, the
same standards of quality, selection, and service have remained intact.
Visitors to the shop in the 50s, 60s, 70s, and 80s will remember Joan
Meehan, longstanding manageress of Turmeaus' Water Street location. A
wealth of knowledge on anything fit for smoking, Mrs. Meehan was a
fixture of downtown Liverpool for over 30 years.
