A SMATTERING of celebs and a host of cigar lovers from across the globe gathered for a very special evening at Boisdale Canary Wharf – the C.Gars Ltd Auction followed by the inaugural Spectator Cigar Awards.
Familiar faces in the crowd included David Soul, formerly of Starsky and Hutch fame, Duran Duran frontman Simon le Bon, former Premiership footballer Julian Dicks and stars of the stage and screen.
But as usual, the real stars proved to be the cigars.
With lots including special edition humidors, signed memorabilia, the rarest vintage Havanas and mature stocks of current production cigars, the auction attracted strong bidding from the start.
In all, more than 300 Lots were knocked down by Auctioneer Jonathan Humbert before the decks could be cleared for the cigar bash of the decade.

With tables groaning under the weight of wines from Domaines De Rothschild and prime Aberdeenshire fillets of beef, the sumptuous meal began.
A silent auction for Fuente and Havana cigars continued throughout dinner and then, once the tables were cleared, the Awards ceremony began, hosted by Spectator Chairman Andrew Neil. Hunters & Frankau scooped the Supplier of the Year Award, both The Lanesborough and The Wellesley were honoured for their outstanding Cigar Terraces and both Nick Hammond and wine writer Will Lyons received an award for Cigar Writer of the Year.
The Spectator Cigar Smoker of the Year received several nominations, and personal messages from both Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone were read out to the audience. But finally, Simon le Bon was announced the winner and gifted a superb Jean Richard wristwatch valued at £15,000, plus a specially commissioned humidor of smokes.
The party retired to the terrace for Opus X cigars and some Hennessy XO. It was quite some night to remember.
