Suntory’s flagship distillery, Yamazaki was founded by Shinjiro Torii in 1923.
The town of Yamazaki was chosen to be the site of Japan’s first commercial distillery due to its very ‘Scottish’ climate, and with it being an area where three rivers converge.
In its early days, Yamazaki produced both malt and grain for Suntory's blends, but the opening of the Chita distillery in 1972 allowed the company to focus on its single malt brand.
It is now one of the world's most desirable. The first spirit ran from the stills in 1924, on 11th November at 11:11am.
With the introduction of the 2022 Yamazaki Tsukuriwake Selection Limited Edition, the essence of Yamazaki Single Malt Whisky is captured.
This collection honors Tsukuriwake, which means “artisanship through a diversity of making” and is composed of four Yamazaki single malts - Puncheon, Peated Malt, Spanish Oak and Mizunara.
The set includes four bottles of Yamazaki from four different cask types, which are part of the Tsukuriwake" selection.
Yamazaki - Spanish Oak (2022): This Yamazaki Single Malt is one of the Yamazaki 2022 limited edition series editions. Matured in a Spanish oak cask, bottled as part of the Tsukuriwake selection. 70cl, 48%.
Yamazaki - Mizunara (2022): Mizunara oak is from Japan and has such unique characteristics from the oak that are imparted into the whisky. Released in 2022.
Yamazaki - Peated Malt (2022): The eagerly awaited 2022 special release peated malt edition is finally here!! This was bottled as part of the Tsukuriwake selection. 48%, 70cl.
Yamazaki - Puncheon (2022): Distilled at the oldest distillery in Japan, The Yamazaki Distillery, this 2020 edition of the Puncheon is part of the Tsukuriwake selection. It is a rich and sweet Japanese whisky that has been aged in an oak puncheon cask. 48%, 70cl.
