Herman Upmann was a banker from Germany who so loved Cuban cigars that he moved to Havana in 1844 and set up as both banker and cigar maker. His bank closed in the early 1920's but his cigars live on as a fine example of an elegant, light to medium flavoured Habano.

H. Upmann's blend is composed exclusively of filler and binder tobaccos grown in the Vuelta Abajo zone.

Gold medals in no less than eleven international exhibitions during the 19th Century can be found on the brand's labelled boxes.

More Info

It is very mild and smooth, with a little spicy and dark chocolate flavour. A fine smoke, with good complexity from beginning to end. This cigar is a rare treat.

"...A softly pressed corona with rounded edges and tapered shoulders. The burn is notably firm, but delivers a chewy smoke full of brown sugar notes and baking spices balanced by cedar and a marzipan finish..."

Well made with an even burn and draw. However, the full bodied smoke seemed hot. Burnt citrus peel taste that was a tad sharp. Finish seemed a bit short, and uneventful. written by Michael

Perhaps due to a poor cutter, the experience here was not amazing. The burn was uneven and needed relighting three times. The flavour was over mild but the aroma was nice, if a little underpowered. As others have said, a good introduction to Havanas but not a keeper! written by Benjamin

I had one of these while watching a rather super concert recently. Unfortunately this was not up to the standard of the music, it burnt in an uneven fashion and was roughly akin to licking a skillet during the second half. The taste is leathery but overwhelmingly warm, certainly not the full flavoured earthy brute it as been billed as. So in response to its reputation, there are worse, but having tried a few of these, I can confidently say that your money would be better spent elsewhere. written by
