This Tomintoul Peated Malt has been distilled in the traditional manner in the prestigious Speyside Glenlivet region, and unusually for this district, it is made with peated malted barley.
After “sleeping” for 15 years in hand-picked oak barrels, this aged whisky exudes heathery smokiness moderated by soft Speyside malt.
Pure ingredients and the natural environment add to smooth and mellow character of this award-winning Tomintoul Single Malt Scotch Whisky, “the gentle dram”.
This makes “Peaty Tang” very unusual, most distilleries in the Speyside region do not use peat.
Bottled at 40% ABV, this release is a follow up from the original Peaty Tang from Tomintoul, however this edition has a declared age statement of 15 Years.
Nose: Gentle heathery smoke balanced with creamy sweet tones and oaky spice.
Palate: Conspicuous smokiness moderated by soft Speyside malt and gentle spice.
Finish: Soft, smoky and prolonged with a hint of barley sugar.
Jim Murray has scored this Tomintoul 15yo Peaty Tang 89.5/100 in his 2020 Whisky Bible, describing it as ‘The Gentle Dram'.
