A polished, mellow and very approachable Speysider, Tomatin was once the largest distillery in Scotland with 23 stills and a production capacity of 12 million litres of alcohol per year but these days, capacity is down to 5 million litres.
A medium-bodied single malt from the Tomatin distillery, this 12 year old was released in late 2003 to replace the 10 year old.
Nose: Medium bodied and well-balanced, there are notes of toasted cereals and barley as well as warming winter spices and buttery peppery from the toasted oak. Hints of dark sugar and cut flowers with a note of malt extract, rum and apple peel also feature.
Palate: A good body and quite sweet, there are notes of delicious fudge, sugar and more winter spices. There are also notes of toffee apple and Bramley peel with notes of dried herbs.
Finish: Good length with notes of boiled sweets and fruity sweetness.
