A release from Tomatin's Five Virtues series, which gives light to five elements - Fire, Water, Earth, Wood and Metal.
Metal, the fourth phase of the cycle - is expressed by 12 beautiful copper stills, which produce a
pure spirit that, for this distinctive edition, is matured in classic first fill Bourbon barrels.
The Five Virtues Series does not carry an age statement, however Tomatin aim to be as open and transparent as they are allowed to be under EU law.
Each of the five bottlings, all in editions of 6,000 bottles, focuses on different cask maturations!
Nose: Soft and creamy with vanilla notes. A hint of sweetness soon presents itself from chocolate and Macadamia nuts.
Palate: Citrus notes come to the forefront with sweet spices.
Finish: Typically Tomatin; soft, sweet and light.
Jim Murray has scored this Tomatin Five Virtues Metal Bourbon Barrel 95/100 in his 2020 Whisky Bible.
‘There’s metal enough in the “Earth” bottling. Was wondering where the metal comes into things here. As these are first fill bourbon casks, wonder if it was the type of warehouse they come from in Kentucky…Anyway, talking metal: this is pure gold…’.
