Jim Murray's Whisky Bible 2017 - 95.5/100
Nose: Old and packed with bourbon maturation goodness. There’s overly ripe bananas and soft tropical notes together with a sweet fudge quality.
Palate: Massively silky smooth on the palate, with the introduction of thick oils. There’s a nice age to this which makes it lovely and delicate, the slight summer citrus is there along with the ripe banana flavours.
Finish: Slight puffs of smoke and massive malt notes, which was a surprise with the age of the dram. Overall the finish on this one is deeply warming and long.
Jim Murray has scored this Tomatin 1988 Batch 3 86.5/100 in his 2020 Whisky Bible.
‘Few whiskies in the world shows of their malty muscle like Tomatin and here, briefly, it goes into overdrive. For the most part, a happy meeting of slightly salty malt and oak’.
