Tomahawk Maple Cream liqueur is made with a base of rum (as opposed to grain spirit, which is more customary in the cream liqueur world) and sweetened with Grade A maple syrup from Quebec.
The name comes from the legend where Native American warriors would participate in games of skill before battle and one of these games consisted of throwing Tomahawks with precision and might against surrounding trees.
The winner would relinquish his Tomahawk within the tree as a sign of respect, now onto the whisky liqueur side of things. Maple sap was later discovered dripping from the Tomahawk blade and when it was, that moment began the great tradition of Maple Syrup and helped shape Canada’s identity as a nation.
The 2013 Wine Enthusiast review called it a "maple toned version of Baileys" as well as "addictive." They recommended it for coffee or warmed apple cider.
