The 2018 release of the popular Springbank 21 Year Old has been aged for 21 years in a combination of 30% bourbon barrels and 70% rum casks.
The aging process gives this Springbank a pleasantly rich yet smooth character. The finish, meanwhile, is redolent of soft smoke and toasted almonds.
Only a limited amount of 3,700 bottles released for the 2018 bottling, filled at 46% vol and presented as ever in shiny gold attire.
Nose: A burst of heather and freshly mowed grass followed by honey, pear skin and wood shavings. Hints of butter; cheesecake, fresh cream and digestive biscuit.
Palate: Elegant and gentle. Butterscotch and vanilla, sugar cane and molasses develop as the rum cask influence brings apricots, peaches and paprika.
Finish: A soft smokiness is present in the background. Toffee apples, raisins and oat biscuits emerge. In the foreground; peppercorn, almonds and apricot jam are prominent.
