Featured Distillery of the Month

There are over 120 active distilleries spread across Scotland, which are split into five whisky-producing regions; Campbeltown, Highland, Islay, Lowland and Speyside. The location of the distillery can have a big impact on the flavour and produce some of the finer nuances; everything from the water, the weather, the environment and the peat can play a part.

Each month we will be featuring a different whisky distillery by highlighting the very best of the "water of life" from their ranges. We invite you to learn about each of these wonderful birthplaces of our favourite spirit and sample the best they produce.

Distillery of the Month: Balvenie

About the Distillery:
This Speyside distillery is located in Dufftown, Scotland, and was built in 1892 by William Grant. Their whisky making process is dedicated to maintain the Five Rare Crafts, with them being the only distillery in Scotland that still grows its own barley, uses traditional malting floors and keeps both a coppersmith and a team of coopers on site.

And of course, their Malt Master, David C. Stewart MBE presides over all-important maturation process.

Week 1: Balvenie 12 Year Old Doublewood
Read our thoughts on this expression.
This expression was launched in 1993, using a process designed by their Malt Master in 1982, now commonly known as ‘wood finishing’. The whisky that has spent at least 12 years in American Oak ex-bourbon barrels and hogsheads is then transferred for further maturation into Spanish oak ex-Oloroso Sherry casks for an additional nine months.
