Islay

Located in the Inner Hebrides of Scotland and often lashed by sea winds and rain, each of these elements contribute to the styles of whisky this region produces as well as the large consistency of peat which heavily influences the flavour of whiskies produced here.

The Islay region is home to some of the finest distilleries including Laphroaig, Ardbeg and Bruichladdich.

Typical Style: Renowned for their strong and peaty smokiness, the characters of Islay whiskies are very often described as being smoky and medicinal, salty and sea weedy with a dry finish.

Did you know? Contrary to popular belief, not all Islay whiskies are massively peaty. In fact, Bunnahabhain and Bruichladdich are both very mildly peated, if at all peated.
