The one and only New Orleans original, Sazerac Rye symbolizes the culture and history of the Big Easy.
In the 19th century, industrious farmers and distillers in the heartland of the United States barreled and shipped their rye whiskeys down the great Mississippi River to the bustling, growing city of New Orleans.
These spicy and assertive spirits fuelled the whiskey culture of New Orleans and established the first American cocktail, The Sazerac.
Sazerac Rye Whiskey is rumored to be made from a mash of 51% Rye, 39% Corn and 10% Malted Barley.
Following distillation, the whiskey is aged for a minimum of six years in the Kentucky heat, before a small batch of barrels are married together.
Sazerac Straight Rye earned a score of 94.5 points from Jim Murray's Whisky Bible, and a score of 95 points from Wine Enthusiast, which called it a "Best Buy."
Nose: Aroma of rye, malt, cinnamon, cloves and black pepper. The aroma gives way to notes of chewy caramel, vanilla, spicy rye.
Palate: Similar to the nose with the caramel, vanilla and spice with candied citrus.
Finish: Ends with a touch of dried fruits and rye.
