Royal Lochnagar 12 year old is packed with personality but never overbearing, this is a well-bred whisky
Subtle and freshly woody, this medium-bodied single malt from forested Royal Deeside is aged for 12 years in oak casks.
A favourite of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert, Royal Lochnagar was originally a key ingredient in VAT 69, but most production is now for single malts.
The distillery has some historic and unusual equipment that contributes to the character of the whisky. Limited quantities of whisky are produced each year, which make Royal Lochnagar one of Scotland’s rarest Single Malt Whiskies
Royal Lochnagar 12 year old is an ideal gift for drinkers looking to explore Highland Single Malt Whiskies known for being rich in flavour and aroma.
Royal Lochnagar works best served in a traditional whisky glass, neat or with a little water.
Nose: Not obvious to begin with. Planed wood with light toffee and a boat varnish. Linseed oil behind, even putty, and later a lychee-like acidity arrives. With water the acidity comes through and the nose sweetens. Still a pleasant fresh woodiness, followed by warm sand. After a while, coffee with brown sugar.
Palate: Pleasant and the initial sweetness of the whisky is quickly overtaken by acidity.
Finish: Dry; medium-length.
