There hadn’t been a distillery in Montana for more than 100 years, something Bryan Schultz thought was a shame.
One thing history told him was that great whisky starts with two things: amazing grain and pure water.<br
Luckily he had access to both right there in Montana. Back in 2008 a site was chosen for the RoughStock Distillery, nestling at the base of the Bridger Mountain Range in beautiful south-western Montana and, when Vendome finally delivered the copper stills in 2009, distillation started in earnest.
Roughtstock make different whiskies with different grains, a somewhat complex start for a small distillery but one that allows the 100% single grain mash bills to offer completely original flavours in their whiskies.
Nose: Creamy caramel and toffee which only grows with time in the glass. Butter tarts and raw pastry, with dark fruits and pepper. Cinnamon and other spices. Orange, apple and pear. A slight char, smoky edge

Finish: Long finish on green apple skins and oak notes.
