Named after William Shakespeare's tragic lovers, the origins of Romeo y Julieta as a Habano date back to 1875.

The brand rose to international fame during the early years of the 20th Century under the direction of Don 'Pepin' Rodriguez, a talented promoter, who was amongst the first to recognise the power of the cigar band. During his hey day no less than 20,000 different bands were used in production.

Winston Churchill became a devotee of the brand. Following his visit to Havana in 1946, his name has not only been commemorated on a band but it has also served to describe the marque's most famous size - Romeo y Julieta Churchill.

The 21st century has seen the arrival of two additional sizes using the name. The first called Short Churchill, a robusto size that had been missing from the range, was added in 2006. The second launched as the 21st Festival del Habano in 2010, was Wide Churchills, which boasts a 55 ring gauge to mark the trend amongst enthusiasts for stouter girth vitolas.

Romeo y Julieta's balanced and aromatic blend of selected filler and binder leaves from the Vuelta Abajo zone make it the classic medium bodied Habano.

Today Romeo y Julieta is well known around the world as ever and offers the widest range of long filler sizes in any Habano brand.

Tasting Notes

The flavours are pronounced and delightful, such as chocolate, honey vanilla and cinnamon creating a fantastic combination. Delightfuly smooth and consitent quality. A truly wonderful smoke.

"...A full draw delivers some muddled salty and spicy notes that soon come together for a complex, milk chocolate and woody tasting smoke that hints of dried cherry..."

Reviewed by Mark Cloer ( December 2000) It was a happy holiday indeed when I received the three Romeo y Julieta Exhibition #4 Cuban cigars for taste testing a few days after Christmas. Yes Virginia, there is a Santa Claus!!!! All three cigars, my favorite vitola, measured just under the 5" X 48 ring, with a light brown to slightly greenish wrapper with moderate veining. Two of the three cigars were firm and one was soft to inspection. All displayed a fine triple cap. After allowing the three beauties to settle down after their long journey I chose a cool evening on the back porch to clip and light the first cigar. With the orange glow of my portable gas heater to chase the cool night air away, on the initial light the wrapper split a small measure up the cigar, evidence of the need for more time in the humidor. A hint of spice as my palette became accustomed to what would develop into a truly memorable smoke. As I smoked through the first 1/3 of the cigar a wonderful earthy, nutty complexity became apparent. The ash was a dark grey with subtle vein trails requiring a forceful removal only twice throughout the smoke. The final 2/3 simply reinforced the complexity of flavors aforementioned with only a slight but pleasant increase in spiciness. the draw and volume of smoke was surprisingly nice for this vitola. Cigar two and three offered no surprises, one smoked a little more unevenly, undoubtedly the softer roll of the three. Otherwise I would recommend these to any aficionado who likes a complex medium bodied smoke. My only regret is I don't have the other 22 box mates to age in my humidor and savor throughout the year. My sincere thanks to C.GARS LTD.

Purchased two of these one for a friend and one for myself as we both enjoy the romeo no2s. Took it on holiday with me and saved it till the last evening as a holiday treat. I had smoked a inka secret blend rojo red tres petit corona a few evenings before and was surprised by how tasty it was, especially as it was a cheap smoke. The same can not be said for this. It was not a bad smoke but by no means a good smoke. The best i can say is that it past 45 mins or so inoffensivley but for me it was quite bland and lacked any real flavour.

Excellent smoke this one. Feeling a tad sorry for myself due to an ongoing condition, I decided to smoke the last of a Robusto sampler I'd picked up from CGars. And boy, did this cigar do the trick. Lashings of thick smoke had me blowing rings bigger than Saturns! There was ample body to the flavour with subtle hints of pepper and cinnamon. Due to not being able to drink alcohol (damn those tablets!) I paired this with a strong Kwonggi Mountain coffee which complimented it brilliantly. There was a nice balance of flavours going on with hints of chocolate and cream but nothing too overwhelming. It did the trick, lightened my mood, and made me realise life ain't so bad after all! And do you know what? I'm feeling a little better too. My quack will put it down to the tablets but I know what really helped - nurse, pass me another one of those R&J's, please!

I expected a Romeo & Julieta to be an excellant smoke , but I found the Exhibition Nr:4 to be a let down , with it's uneven burn & disability to hold ash more than an inch at a time , made for a rough quick burn , the smoke produced was when one got past the blue, white but intermittent the draw was easy enough after the first 1 1/2 inches but did have some undertones of cinnamon but was in no way regular for this , I disliked the taste at near the middle as it got progressively stronger and rounded off a disappointing experience with a thoroughly nasty one.Don't get me wrong as I am used to full taste cigars , but I think I would have a better experience with a Jose L Piedra Conserva of which I have a few left , when this cigar was delivered it felt a little dry so I left it in the humidor for a few days to condition , as this normally improves a cigar , perhaps I got an off one , I have another in the humi , as I always buy two of a new cigar to try , maybe the next one will be better.
