A tawny colour with a yellow halo that signifies an advanced stage of maturity.
This is the genuine colour of a 20 year-old cask-aged wine, it is a blend with an average age of 20 years, made from a selection of several lots originating in one of the oldest vineyards in the Douro region - "Quinta do Bom Retiro".
Enjoy after a cosy dinner with mild cheese that won't overwhelm the finesse of the wine. It can flow together with coffee and conversation afterwards. It should be served at 18º- 20ºC.
Nose: The nose is spirited and nervous, with an array of fruit and nut aromas: grapefruit, apricot, almond and hazelnut, spiced with cinnamon, caramel and cocoa and rich vanilla oak.
Palate: Charming and velvety on the palate, the grace of the first contact is maintained by a complex sequence of ripe and dry fruit.
Finish: The fruitiness continues, followed by a languorous finish.
Richard Mayson for Decanter: 98 Points
From a single estate where a quarter of the vines are more than 80 years old: soft and seamless, boasting waves of dates, dried figs, brazil nuts and toasted almonds. Suave silky texture and wonderful savoury- sweet length. Supremely good.
