After its closure in 1983, the Port Ellen distillery has continued to gain a much respected status as a true legacy of Islay.
This is the first of the incredibly popular Port Ellen annual releases - distilled in 1979 and bottled 30 years later in 2009, this Port Ellen was bottled at cask strength and limited to 5,916 bottles with this being bottle 4,552 - beautifully presented in original velvet lined cardboard box.

Nose: A bit more modest than most previous bottlings with a peat influence coated in a honeyed sweetness. Dried fruits and pears, this Port Ellen is slightly more
medicinal. Lemons, a touch of vanilla and finally almonds.
Palate: A confident 30yo with coating mouth-feel, sweet delivery with a coal smoke centre. Soon the spices kick in (pepper, nutmeg) and it gets drier. Hints of lemon biscuits and salty liquorice. Powerful and balanced.
Finish: Long, fading on smoke, spices and liquorice.
