After its closure in 1983, the Port Ellen distillery has continued to gain a much respected status as a true legacy of Islay. This is the first of the incredibly popular Port Ellen annual releases.
Distilled in 1978 and bottled 29 years later in 2008, bottled at cask strength and limited to 6,618 bottles, this is bottle 5,066.

Nose: Creamy and less of a coastal feel with complex caramels, a hint of smoke and a menthol edge.
Palate: Grows and grows with each sip. Hints of coconut initially before yet again caramels take centre stage as well as rich juicy prunes and dates, treacle, honey, raisins.
Finish: Dry, earthy oak before it slightly cools off a little.
