This 24 year old Islay malt from the legendary and now closed distillery, Port Ellen, was distilled on the 8th April 1975 and bottled for Signatory Vintage on the 2nd September 1999.
Signatory was founded by Andrew Symington in 1999. After discovering single cask single malt whisky while managing Prestonfield House Hotel, Andrew bought his first cask, a Glenlivet 1968, and is now one of the largest independent bottlers in Scotland.
As of 2002, Signatory Vintage Whisky company is also the owner of the Edradour distillery.
This 35cl bottle gives a great insight into just what the now closed Port Ellen distillery had to offer, bottled at an ABV of 43%.
Please note minor wear to tin.
Nose: Salty, maritime and distinctly Islay'd on the nose, it then warms rather sweetly.
Palate: That same salty and peated quality soon runs into soft summer tar, even softer chewed leather, and an apparent late syrupy style.
Finish: Ashy, cindery, peaty, dry and still saline.
