After its closure in 1983, the Port Ellen distillery has continued to gain a much respected status as a true legacy of Islay.
This is the first of the incredibly popular Port Ellen annual releases - distilled in 1978 and bottled 25 years later in 2004, at cask strength and limited to 5,100 bottles with this being bottle 1,672.
Nose: A touch of peanut butter with a hint of caramelised oranges, still great peat, and very well integrated.
Palate: Sweet, hangs around on the back of the tongue and down the sides of the palate for a while. Peanut butter continues onto the palate from the nose, clinging throughout.
Finish: Long. Very Long indeed.
