"Old Ballantruan" Speyside Glenlivet Single Malt Scotch Whisky is only one of a handful of peated malt whiskies from the Speyside region.
After 'sleeping' for 10 years in hand-picked oak barrels, this whisky has been bottled at 50% volume and without any chill-filtration to retain its layered and integrated peaty flavours.
The excellent combination of sweetness and peat is now bolstered by a little bit more maturity.
Nose: Gentle waft of "peat reek", smoked campfires and subtle citrus fruit notes.
Palate: A mellow, dry peat with hints of lemon cheesecake, cocoa and shortbread.
Finish: Lingering smoke and peat with a light pepper kick.
Jim Murray has scored this Old Ballantruan 10yo 94.5/100 in his 2020 Whisky Bible, describing it as ‘Everything is brilliantly in proportion and so sublimely balanced.’
