A truly fascinating whisky, Muckle Flugga is made by blending together six single malts which are then shipped to Unst, near the Muckle Flugga lighthouse (which was built by Robert Louis Stevenson's father in 1854) in the Shetlands.
The whisky spends a year on the island, surviving the harsh seasons before being returned to the mainland for bottling.
Nose: Hints of fruity honey with a little sherry on the nose. Toasted and a faint herbal aspect to it.
Palate: A lovely interplay between oak and barley and it's on the palate where the sherry casks make themselves known subtly and delicately with a touch of dried peels and soft spices.
Finish: A malty, fruit-driven finish.
