Description Ref # 20238

Made in Germany at the McLintock pipe factory, famous for their flavoured pipe tobaccos.

McLintock Syrian Latakia is a great example of this most exceptional form of tobacco.

Latakia is a form of tobacco that can be historically traced back to an accidental curing process in Syria. The farmers had a surplus of tobacco and had no buyers. As such found themselves short of storage space they stored the tobacco in their houses. The tobacco was cured by the cooking that took place in the houses.

These days the tobacco is produced in Cyprus as changes in Government in Syria and also various Wars have made this tobacco to source from its place of Origin.

Cypriot Latakia is still produced by Curing the tobacco with native hard woods and shrubs to create its peppery tang.

Tasting Notes

This blend is one of the few true Syrian Latakia blends on the market. Burley and Virginia are mixed with the ever elusive Syrian Latakia to produce a blend that is not too strong and treasured by lovers of English and Balkan blends.

When smelt fresh from the pouch, it smells so good, I would use it as the air freshener in my house if I could. It lights easy and doesn't take many relights, no bite but I reckon if inhaled harshly it has the potential to give a little one. The cherry starts off very prominent but faded as I worked my way down my bowl which was surprisingly nice because it became smoother and it was nice to know the cherry was fading. It leaves a lovely room note and a definite recommendation for anyone who likes aromatics!

This is one of the best Syrian Latakia blends you will ever come across. This is so smokey and rich. The Virginia and Burley really compliment the Latakia and make it so much better. It packs and lights easy and no bite just a lot of smoke!

When opened this tobacco reminded me of a terrys chocolate orange and instantly I was excited, this blend is going to be good. It didnt require alot of lighting at all, it lit almost perfectly and stayed lit, as a novice pipe smoker I was pretty impressed that it had! The blend is very aromatic and you definitely need to like ripe oranges because that's what it is, find the place you can day dream in and light this up, it's beautiful and the whole blend is so complimenting together. Definite recommendation.

Upon opening I was greeted by a very Fruit Shoot like blackcurrant smell, it enticed me into packing up my pipe and smoking it to see what it was like to smoke... And it was good! Blackcurrant infused Virginia and Black Cavendish in a slightly Robinson's Squash way was nice, different and very memorable. No bite but may take a few relights, definitely worth a try.

Black Magic is one of the few tobacco's where you have no idea what to expect from it. A Black Cavendish and Virginia blend with all sorts of flavours that intertwine this. Personally, when I opened it I could smell raisins, sultanas and vanilla essence. Reminded me of something my Grandma would make any time we visited her. When lit the smoke is smooth and delectable, it's definitely sweet. Vanilla is the main flavour here, it coats the Cavendish and Virginia brilliantly and brings them together but you can definitely taste some citrus-y notes in there. It's delicious and not overly aromatic, no bite and lights easy enough, 2 or 3 re-lights may be needed but you should be okay on this one. It is indeed magic.
