Description

Length: 5"
Ring Gauge: 42
Flavour: Full
Packaging: 1 Single cigar

Macanudo 1968 has a new, unprecedented and intense flavour that does complete justice to the full-flavoured tobaccos.

Matured in tercios (bales wrapped in palm bark) and in wooden barrels charred on the inside for a more enhanced fragrance, the Dominican and Nicaraguan tobacco unite, combining to become a very characteristic filler, exclusively grown for General Cigar on the island of Ometepe in Nicaragua.

These tobaccos for the filler have been carefully developed to complement the Connecticut binder and the unparalleled Honduran San Agustin wrapper.

Macanudo 1968 is an expression of depth and complexity that will certainly delight the experienced cigar smoker.

Very enjoyable cigar. Extremely surpised as it's at the cheaper end of the market. Smooth, even burn and the ash stacks up nicely. Really recommend will be buying more on pay day

First thing you notice about this cigar is how nice it looks and feels in the hand. Very firm, with a nice, even wrapper. The draw is perfect for me; a little tighter than average. The burn is consistent and even - I did have to touch up a bit of side burn but I blame having lit it in the dark rather than the construction of the cigar. I only smoked the one so can't say if this is a common problem, but I found this stick did have a tendency to go out (something I've never had to deal with before in a cigar). As a pipe smoker, relights have long since stopped annoying me, and it relit with no trouble. If relighting bothers you, however, be aware that the one I smoked did need around 3 relights. Onto the smoke itself: loads of thick white smoke with every draw, more voluminous and thicker than I've seen from a cigar before. Very significant nicotine content too. The first third didn't do much for me palate-wise. Lots of nice peppery smoke, but didn't taste much beyond that. Second third I started to get grass and hay notes, with a nice, juicy acidity. Flavour profile oddly reminiscent of Virginia tobacco - not something I've tasted before in a cigar. Final third was the most enjoyable for me - rich, creamy and milk chocolatey. The very end of the cigar was where this stick started to offer the depth I was after. I smoked it to a nub about an inch long, at which point it went out. It was still eminently smokeable to the end, and I'm sure many of you would have impaled the nub on a toothpick, relit it and smoked it even further. One thing that really struck me about this cigar was just how long it lasted for the size - I'm a slow smoker (when people reckon on 45-60 minutes to finish a particular cigar, I'm usually on the 60 minute end of things) and this stick lasted 80 or 85 minutes, so I imagine even a quick smoker would take around an hour to smoke this one. The aftertaste was unremarkable but not unpleasant, and didn't linger, which I consider a plus. All in all there's a lot to like about this stick - I thoroughly enjoyed it but ultimately it lacked depth of flavour for me. I smoked it last thing at night after dinner, but I think its flavour profile lends itself more to an early morning smoke. Those without a high nic tolerance might want to have a hearty breakfast first and keep a sugary drink handy - I'm sure it'd be lovely with a sweet Turkish coffee.

Ok, I have now tried 4 of these. I have come to appreciate that they are actually quite a strong smoke, definite powerful woody flavours at the fore. I stand by my original thoughts that these are great value for money but I'm not quite sure where to position them. For me, they are a little too powerful for a daytime smoke and a little too blunt for an evening sortie. I think I need to try one late afternoon, taking a break from a spot of fishing and after a snack. Small criticism is that they are rolled a bit on the tight side which I think hinders the experience a tiny bit. I'm no expert but I wonder if these would be a really good cigar to age in the hope that they develop a bit more complexity and mellowness. I would still thoroughly recommend these at this price!

At last, a yummy grown up cigar for under a tenner.... Even in the UK!!! Thoroughly enjoyed my first one of these, nice light flavours but with a enough depth to grab the attention of the experienced cigar fan. If they turn out to be consistently as good as this one I can see them being a huge hit. Would unreservedly recommend you try one, very impressed!
