The third batch of MA from the amazing Elements of Islay range!
Ma is the name given to a heavily peated Bunnahabhain, and this certainly does pack a peaty punch! This is also named after the Margadale river which flows past the distillery.
Two ex-bourbon barrels of peated malt from Bunnahabhain were used for this whisky, distilled in 2004 and aged for over 15 years.
This is a straightforward, but not simplistic, dram – full of bucolic peat and citrus fruit.
Only a limited amount of 734 bottles have been produced.
Please note, this is limited to 1 per customer.
Nose: Marmalade on burnt toast, buttered crumpets, grilled banana and pineapple. The smoke is earthy, mellow and inviting like a summer barbeque.
Palate: Creamy with burnt orange peel and macadamia nuts. A rollercoaster of robust peat that builds and then descends, accompanied by sumptuous fruit flavours: gooseberry, honeydew melon and a salt-rimmed margarita.
Finish: Fresher and slightly green; pine, vanilla, concentrated apple juice.
