For the Laphroaig Select, the Islay distillery has taken whisky from a number of different types of cask, including Oloroso Sherry butts, white American oak, Pedro Ximenez seasoned hoggies, Quarter casks and first fill bourbon casks.
Laphroaig Select takes its name from the special selection of American and European casks, chosen for their unique character that they give during maturation.
A laid-back addition to the Laphroaig core range of single malts.
Colour: A natural sparkling gold with different layers of colour, each arising from the different maturations and oils mixing together.
Nose: Peat first, followed by red fruits from the PX and Oloroso casks. A hint of dryness, oak and a long lingering florally finish containing marzipan and limes.
Palate: Initially sweet, matching the nose followed by the classic dry, peaty, ashy flavours as a lovely finish then arises from the rich fruits of the European casks.
Finish: Medium length. Peat remains until it's over.
