The Macallan Triple Cask Matured 18 Years Old reveals the unrivalled commitment to the mastery of wood and spirit for which The Macallan has been known since it was established in 1824.
It is an expression of their enduring desire to go beyond ordinary, to seek out the extraordinary, and create peerless single malts!
Exceptional casks are sourced, crafted, toasted and seasoned under the watchful eye of The Macallan Master Distiller, once filled, the maturing spirit remains undisturbed in the same cask for a full eighteen years.
It is the oak that makes the greatest contribution to the quality, natural colours and distinctive aromas and flavours at the heart of this single malt whisky.
It is a uniquely complex combination of oak casks that delivers the extraordinarily smooth and delicate character of The Macallan Triple Cask Matured 18 Year Old!
Nose: Sweet and malty, along with honey, crème brulee and traces of burlap and old books. Some fruitier notes also, with stewed pears and cherries. Pleasantly balanced. Warm and comforting.
Palate: Bitter oranges and charred oak. Pretty woody and fairly peppery, especially at such a low alcohol percentage. Now sweeter notes of raisins and vanilla. A step down from the nose.
Finish: A fairly fruity finish, with some raisins, but also lots of oak.
Jim Murray has scored this Macallan 18 Year Old Triple Cask - 70cl 43% 94.5/100 in his 2020 Whisky Bible, describing it as ‘This is much more accentuated on a cream sherry persona, but this sample is sulphur-free and quite fabulous.'
