A 2015 addition to the range of peated anCnoc single malts, once again with a name reference a traditional peat-harvesting tool which is used to break up the top level of rough ground and prepare the land for peat harvesting.
It clears the heather turf to expose the peat used to produce a whisky, in this case, with a PPM of 11.1 (only just higher than the Rutter, which is peated to 11 PPM).
Ancnoc Rascan Limited Editition is aged American ex-bourbon barrels for "nearly a decade", according to the distillers at Knockdhu.
Colour: Muted gold.
Nose: An initial honey sweetness followed by green apples and the accents of citrus, oranges and lemons.
Taste: Sweet and spicy notes of vanilla and honey are carried forward at the first sip. Hints of toffee then present themselves, followed by subtle spices and a smooth leathery undertone.
Finish: Light and elegant. Floral and pleasantly smoky as the last hint of smoke slowly fades out.
