Glenury Royal was founded in 1825 by local MP, Captain Robert Barclay and once powered entirely by water, this now closed distillery takes is name from picturesque Glen Ury in Kincardineshire.
The Rare Malt Selection is a historic selection of single malt whiskies from operational and lost distilleries that were released by Diageo between 1995 and 2005.
This is one of the few official bottlings of Glenury Royal, released at 28 years old within the famous Rare Malts Selection and bottled at cask strength.
Distilled in 1970 and bottled in the October 1999 out-turn, this is bottle number 0404. The ‘Royal’ suffix was added in its earliest incarnation, thanks to then owner Captain William Barclay being a personal friend of King William IV.

Shining gold in colour, nutty aromas are followed by oloroso sherry as overall the palate of this Glenury Royal is firm and honey'd.
Pistachio nut flavours then makes an appearance, combining with the flavours of this malt with a leafy long finish.
