One of the first pair of entries in Glenfiddich's Experimental Series, Project XX started as a whisky created by the distillery's 20 brand ambassadors.
Each ambassador selected a cask as master blender, Brian Kinsman then combined them to create the template for this 47%, non-chill-filtered whisky.
Brian married the 20 exceptional malts together, only releasing the final expression once he was completely happy with the liquid. But he was more than happy with the final result: this small batch vatting defied even his expectations.
Nose: Barley sugar is followed by dry cinnamon and nutmeg notes as things then get interesting. Freshly peeled orange zest, lime jelly - water adds in layers of fruity toffee.
Palate: Chocolate covered caramels, black pepper, orange cream and singed orange peels lead things, with milk chocolate truffles and hazelnuts bringing up the rear.
Finish: Dry and softly spicy to start, with sweet hints of digestive and shortbread biscuits building with butter and spice.
