Colour - Quite Golden, sort of a AmberLeaf/Cutters Choice colour (more yellow tones than in the picture)
Smell - Out of the packet its a mild aroma, almost a summer in the woodlands aroma
Consistency - Comes mainly uncompacted unlike most of the mainstream brand names, on the dryer side though, this may affect the quality if you are only an occasional smoker, with drying out issues (easily rectified with your chosen method of hydration eg. slice of potato, carrot or whatever else you prefer)
Light up - A mellow smoke indeed, no harshness, pleasant aroma, mild but not overly mild, all in all... a good smoke.
Review:-
Ok, so before I review this tobacco, heres my story...
Most of my years as a smoker has been spent smoking Taylor Made cigarettes. For years my choice of Brand was Embassy No1
A number of years ago, as the price of a 20 pack was steadily creeping up, I decided when it hit £5 a pack, I was going on Roll ups. After trying most of the main brands, which they all seemed so strong, after coming from manufactured cigarettes, I decided that Amberleaf was the tobacco closest to the taste I was looking for.
I have smoked it ever since.
A few weeks ago, I was in my local supermarket queuing for my usual smoke when I happened to see a price list of all the rolling tobaccos for sale on the counter.
Since the tightening of government laws, I hadnt really kept a check on prices, or what other brands of rolling tobacco where available. I was somewhat surprised that Amberleaf was now over £22:00 for a 50g Pouch and there where a number of brands as low as £17:50 for the same size pack!!!
This got me thinking.....
I decided to get the minimum 30g pack of the four lowest priced Budget brands one by one to see if I could lower my costs without compromising my enjoyment of my usual smoke. TBH most of them where OK but stronger with more pungent smells, not really what I was looking for but, hey, I wasnt giving up on my quest so easily.
I started to blend the cheap bacca with my Amberleaf 50/50 which resulted in an acceptable smoke with significant savings on what I usually pay.
Job done....well no,not quite.
After browsing the internet searching for other rolling tobaccos I hadnt tried, I came across CGars Ltd.
£6.49 per 30g loose English Virginia.....got to be pretty rough for that price. I promptly ordered 2 x 50g of Amberleaf and a 30g x English Virginia (to get me free delivery over £50)
WOW, not at all as I expected....so heres my review (at last, I hear you say)
Really nice aroma, not harsh or pungent in the slightest. Rolls nice but may dry out a tad quicker as mentioned above. On first light up, I thought it was a bit weak, but as I smoked through it the flavours increased leaving a nice mellow aftertaste.
A slightly more mellow flavour than Amberleaf but like any change, you need to get used to it.
I have mixed the English Virginia 50/50 with my Amberleaf which gives me a very satisfying smoke indeed, thus giving me an average price of £16.48 per 50g
When I convert to the English Virginia wholly, It will work out at £10.65 per 50g
Now thats a RESULT!!!!!
PS:- May I just add, if you want a strong tobacco, this is not for you, it is fairly light.
Probably the Silk Cut of the ready made cigarettes, definitely worth a pop for the price
Really glad I came across CGars Ltd
