Tasting Notes

Ileach Peaty:
Nose: Youthful peat, herbal notes, oak, grassy, notes of the coast.
Palate: Sublimely smooth malty notes, peat, peppery spices, tannins, a touch of fruit.
Finish: Faint iodine. Coastal notes, malt.

Smokehead Rock Edition:
Nose: Smoke! Cool wood smoke - thick and full.
Palate: Big, puckering peat. Smoky and fruity sweetness with a touch of sherry.
Finish: Herbal, tangy fruits and more peat smoke!

Bruichladdich Octomore 6 Year Old 2007 (cask 16737) - Sauterne Cask (Rest & Be Thankful):
Nose: Herbal and salty with a lovely combination of various peats. Youthful with more herbal notes as well as boiled sweets and grapes.
Palate: Opens with the cask notes – dried grape and honey followed by a profusion of herbal and medicinal peat, coffee and earth. Dry peat remains and hints of barley, chocolate and hickory have now appeared.
Finish: Light and violety with a chewy biscuity aftertaste.

Laphroaig Triple Wood:
Nose: Dates, walnuts, notes from the Maker’s Mark barrels (vanilla, toastiness, sweetness etc). Butter, zest, cool wood smoke, almond, and passion fruit.
Palate: Surprisingly savoury - think musty wood sheds and hints of moist autumnal forest floor. Sherry notes are also present with a restrained iced fruitcake, graced with hints of Laphroaig’s classic smoke.
Finish: Oaked. Mustiness carries into the finish, which lasts for a good while, with spices and dried fruit.

Connemara Peated:
Nose: Well smoked and peated with a heather freshness and floral notes before a further honeyed sweetness and a little wood.
Palate: Full and smooth with notes of malt and peat. Honey smoke and barley sweetness finish the palate off.
Finish: Long and pungent with honey and peat smoke.
