Tasting Notes

Auchentoshan Three Wood:
Nose: Cooked fruit, sherry and delicious toffee with a rum like quality. Also notes of Bas Armagnac distilled circa 1940.
Palate: Rich. Liqueur cherries in dark chocolate, more sherried fruit and dark forest fruits.
Finish: Led by thick dark treacle, toffee notes and chewy wooded notes, balanced with a green fruit edge.

Glenkinchie 12 Year Old:
Nose: A light sweet nose with barley-malt, green grass and wisps of autumn smoke.
Palate: Slightly sweet yet fresh, late summer fruits and harvest fields, young wood and malted barley.
Finish: A surprising warm finish, dry with a smoky spiciness.

Port Dundas 25 Year Old 1988 (cask 10378) - The Clan Denny (Douglas Laing):
Nose: Initially clean and toffee sweet before it heads somewhat spicy, home-baked and sherbety.
Palate: Has concentrated citric fruitiness topped with creme anglaise, vanilla and mocha flavours.
Finish: Combines all in a barley sugared coating.

Girvan Patent Still:
Nose: Vanilla with a touch of lemon and lime zest and not forgetting the peppercorns, banana and sweet honey.
Palate: Pleasant mouthfeel with more yet more vanilla and just a hint of apricot.
Finish: Woody, sparkling water.

Nose: Bold and bright, hints of salty butter, light citrus, floral notes, a little cocoa.
Palate: Light, gentle and spicy with a touch of crème caramel, floral notes, apple peel, toffee before finally acacia honey.

It's a shame I didn't get the Hibiki, Yamazaki and Togouchi whiskies as these were the ones I was looking forward to trying the most. I've sampled a few of the Nikka whiskies already and they were replaced with these instead. A little disappointing, but still looking forward to trying some of the others. Packing of this item was very strange though. All the bottles were taken out of the packaging and arrived individually bubble wrapped. Box was a little excessive for the contents.
