Tasting Notes

Ledaig 10 Year Old:
Nose: Sweet briny smokiness with a distinctly island character that hints at mild antiseptic, creosote, wax polish, rich mint chocolate and floral, refreshing seaside aromas.
Palate:Tantalisingly sweet yet medicinal flavours release sparks of spicy pepper with peaty smoke and vanilla malty creaminess.
Finish: Spicy white pepper and sweet vibrant liquorice and cloves with a lingering saltiness.

Arran 10 Year Old:
Nose: The initial rush of rich vanilla gives way to kiwi, banana, cantaloupe melon with a dusting of cocoa powder. Undoubtedly complex yet the aromas are in complete harmony with the malt.
Palate: A touch of cinnamon adds an edge to the soft and sweet texture which captivates the palate. The classic Arran citrus notes have rounded with age and reveal new depths of character against sweet oak.
Finish: It drifts over the tongue like golden syrup and gradually fades to tempt another sip. This is a beautifully made whisky.

Isle of Jura 21 Year Old:
This whisky is rich and full bodied thanks to a final maturation in a 1963 Olorosso Sherry butt. Aromas of jaffa cakes, honey on porridge and citrus fruits and followed by flavours of mashed neeps (turnips!), blood orange, winter spices and soft liquorice.

Talisker 10 Year Old:
Nose: Thick with pungent smoke. Notes of kippers, seaweed and apples peels later introduce themselves. Fresh and fragrant.
Palate: Full bodied on the palate with huge plumes of smoke and volcanic, peppery peat. An intense kick to it.
Finish: A long finish with barley and lastly malt.

Tobermory 10 Year Old:
Nose: Quite light and fresh. There are notes of barley sugars and toasted cereals, hints of winter spice and a soft oak with notes of salty melted butter and ground ginger.
Palate: Quite sweet and light with notes of acacia honey and a soft oak, the smoke and peppers rise gently with a touch of dried fruit and peel with a cinnamon note.
Finish: Long and herbal with a touch of pepper.

It's a shame I didn't get the Hibiki, Yamazaki and Togouchi whiskies as these were the ones I was looking forward to trying the most. I've sampled a few of the Nikka whiskies already and they were replaced with these instead. A little disappointing, but still looking forward to trying some of the others. Packing of this item was very strange though. All the bottles were taken out of the packaging and arrived individually bubble wrapped. Box was a little excessive for the contents.
