Description

Grain whisky is often used as a component in blended whiskies (using a selection of grains, not just malted barley), and as such is not often bottled by itself.

In recent years there has been something of a movement to right this wrong, led by none other than Sir David of Beckhamshire. Join the movement, by getting on the outside of these.

This Grain Whisky Tasting Set contains:
- Teeling Single Grain
- The Girvan Patent Still No.4 Apps
- Compass Box Hedonism
- Invergordon - Batch 4 (That Boutique-y Whisky Company)
- Bain's Cape Mountain Whisky

Contents of the set are subject to change. However, rest assured that whichever dram set you order will include 5 superb drams which will either match or exceed the value of what is listed.

Tasting Notes

Teeling Single Grain:
Nose: Meaty and sweet with bitter tannins, toffee, fudge and green leaves. There is also hints of dried mixed herbs, dark chocolate, marmalade and anise.
Palate: Toffee, spice (cinnamon and nutmeg), orchard fruit, grape skin, polished oak and butterscotch.
Finish: Grape skin and red wine with spiced butter and shortbread.

The Girvan Patent Still No. 4 Apps:
Nose: Vanilla fudge, with a touch of lemon and lime zest and not forgetting the peppercorns, banana and sweet honey.
Palate: Pleasant mouthfeel with more yet more vanilla and just a hint of apricot.
Finish: Woody, sparkling water.

Compass Box Hedonism:
Nose: Hedonism is all ripe fruit, fraises des bois and sponge cake with hints of red pepper provide an interesting point to mull.
Palate: Very sensual, sleek and creamy. Black cherry and sweet spices develop with some cereal notes.
Finish: A spiced warmth, toasty, oak and some delicious milk chocolate.

Invergordon Batch 4 (That Boutique-y Whisky Company):
Nose: Red grapes, malt loaf, cloudy apple juice and a bit of charred oak in the background.
Palate: Toffee pennies and tangerine segments at first, though this soon gives way to layers of Sherry-soaked raisins, milk chocolate and Walnut Whips.
Finish: Big, juicy notes of orange segments.

Bain's Cape Mountain Whisky:
Nose: Grapefruit peels, custard creams and icing sugar followed by almost-bourbon-like-buttered corn notes and a floral hint.
Palate: Soft and well-rounded with continued vanilla cream. Fresh pear and fizzy apple laces give it a fruity edge. Cardamom builds as does the warmth.
Finish: Sweet citrus peels return, along with a little bit of meadowsweet.
