DREW ESTATE

The Drew Estate story is one of daring, heartbreak & success but, most of all, one of passion for cigars and the country of Nicaragua, where we have been making cigars since 1996.

Jonathan Drew & Marvin Samel are not your average cigar makers, their story does not start in Cuba, or with fathers in the cigar business. It started with a dream, and through their can-do spirit and never-say-die attitude made Drew Estate one of the premier cigar manufacturers on the planet. The two frat brothers from New York started out small…. Small, as in a 16 square foot retail kiosk in the World Trade Center in NYC.

In late 1998, Jonathan Drew moved to Esteli, Nicaragua with the hopes of starting a rebirth in the cigar world. With a handful of rollers and an even smaller handful of money, the story of “That Crazy Gringo” began.

KENTUCKY FIRE CURED

Kentucky Fire Cured is not something new to the world of tobacco, as it has been grown for over 200 years.

The blend features Kentucky seed tobacco grown and fire cured in Hopkinsville, Kentucky, along with Nicaraguan fillers. The cigar is wrapped with a Mexican San Andres wrapper with a sweetened tip. The mouth feel on the cigar is like bacon maple goodness mixed with bourbon and barbecue.

Tasting Notes

Easily compared to the smoky taste attributed to a peaty scotch, the KFC picks up nuances of the roasted hickory, oak or maple wood.

Cracking stick, wasnt sure what to expect and the hickory BBQ smell/taste is a bit of a Marmite thing, but I enjoyed it. Superb construction with a nice draw and burn that produced a near 2.75 inch ash, a sight to behold on a 4 inch cigar.

I love Drew estate cigars, there is at least one in every order. This beauty is small but it punches you in the face with that bbq smoke smell the moment you open the cellophane. Build is excellent, the aromas are all heavy wood fire, licorice, dark and moody. Definitely one that will divide opinion but thats what Drew Estate do best. My advice is chuck one in your basket and try it yourself.

This is a interesting cigar, one that surprised me. I had little expectation of enjoying it but thought to try something different (my first experience with fire cured tobacco). Coming in cellophane I instantly got that strong woody smell, charcoal even when took the cigar out. First thoughts was that the aroma would be too overwhelming so I left it a while and made myself a espresso 15 minutes or so and the woodiness settled a bit. First inch it reminded me of that smell when entering a wood cabin, which I surprisingly enjoyed and with an occasional maple sweetness made this cigar pleasant to smoke. Being the smaller size it would be interesting how the Fat Molly would taste for I found this cigar being too short in length and soon ended with a more dominant charcoal flavour. But overall I did enjoy this cigar, personally I don’t think I would enjoy it too often but it’s got uniqueness and for that 3 stars would be fair. Its not a great cigar or a five star personally but it’s a good cigar! Worth purchasing if your looking for something unique and different then what’s out there.

Ordered , Shipped and arrived fast This cigar was an absolute immense taste, the smell of it before being lit, the taste of it with a strong whiskey, the burn time was amazing and long enough to enjoy fully with a glass of whiskey whilst listening to some country music. I haven’t long started smoking cigars It took some time to choose a cigar of my liking , I took a gamble buying 2 of these cigars I am so tempted to smoke the last one left but I shall be keeping it until this covid19 passes and I finally get married. I will most definitely order more soon Price is steep but I think this is a good choice of cigar.

The Kentucky Fire Cured Muwat was my first venture into the Drew Estate cigar line and, wow, what a stick! Right out of the packaging youre hit with this intense smokey BBQ smell and this is definitely one of those sticks that you dont want hanging out with others in your humidor. Easy to light and the draw was perfect. The intense aroma doesnt fade at all and the aftertaste is reminiscent of a very peaty whisky. Thoroughly enjoyable smoke from start to finish and I would highly recommend giving this a try if you like the smell of a wood fire.
