Cohiba Cigars

The brand was started, so the story goes, when a body guard to Fidel Castro shared some of his private, un-banded cigars made by Eduardo Ribera. Castro liked them so much that he found the man responsible for them, got a team of rollers and set up the El Laguito factory to create cigar spurred on by the assassination attempts, exclusively for Fidel Castro and other high-level officials. The Cohiba brand wasn’t released to the public until 1982. When they were released they consisted of just three vitolas the Panetela, the Corona Especial, and the Lancero but in 1989 another three were added; the Robusto, the Exquisito, and the Espléndido. These six vitolas are now known as Cohiba’s Línea Clásica (classic line). In 1992 the five sizes of La Linea 1492 were announced; Siglo (meaning century) I, II, III, IV and V, these cigars are now some of the finest and most popular cigars available. All of the Cuban Cohiba cigars are hand rolled except from the two cigarillo sizes that they produce; the Mini and the Club.

The newest addition to the Cohiba family is the Cohiba Piramides Extra. The most prestigious Habano brand exclusively unveiled the new Cohiba Pirámides Extra, during the 14th Habano Festival in February 2012. This is the first figurado that is now here to stay within the Cohiba brand’s Linea Clasica niche.

The Pirámides Extra features new safety measures on the band and on the new tube. The new band features a multitude of holographic elements, both visible and invisible, for heightened safety.
