Greetings from hot and sunny London!

Next Thursday is party time in London with Hunters and Frankau’s Summer cigar party early evening. All the details are here but you had better book fast as they have just announced that the goodie bags include an extra lucky dip cigar, one of the sold out UK regional editions! Looking forward to trying out the latest UK regional edition Havana cigar: Punch Medalla De Oro. (Gold Medals)

The UK Punch will be a limited edition of 3000 boxes exclusive to the UK market and presented in boxes of 10 cigars. They measure in at 6 1/8” length and 50 ring gauge and are gold foil wrapped. We expect humungous interest in this superb English Market Selection cigar and hope to release them next Friday.

I won’t be around when the Punch is released! I’m heading to New York for a few days herfing at my favourite cigar stores and lounges and looking forward to meeting up with friends on Monday 4th June to toast the Queens Diamond Jubilee at the lovely Club Macanudo. If you would like to join me for a drink just drop me an email [email protected]

VINTAGE HAVANAS – Collection sale

We will shortly be making available some splendid vintage Havana cigars from the 1970’s.

The cigars were all purchased in the late 1970’s/early 1980’s from either Dunhill of London or Fox of Bond street and stored perfectly by their owner (not at the cigar merchants) until removal to our humidor.

Many of the boxes/cabinets are still sealed. The ones I have examined are quite splendid. The provenance is perfect.

El Rey del Mundo Choix Supreme cabinets of 50 and singles available.
Hoyo Epicure no.2 cabinets of 25 and singles available.
Romeo y Julieta Exhibition no.4 cabinets of 50 and singles available.
Por Larranaga Magnums cabinet of 50 – outrageously rare.
Romeo petit coronas cabinets of 50 and singles available.
Sancho Panza Belicosos sealed in original glacine paper and singles available.
Sancho Panza Lonsdales sealed in original glacine paper and singles available.

Cuban Cigar Roller 11th – 15th June – London Turmeaus offices

If you would like to see a fabulous cigar rolling demonstration and experience a fresh Havana come along!

Here’s a snip from Hunters website about the roller:

Señora Dilia Hernandez arrived in the UK on Tuesday 8th May and is scheduled to attend various events and Habanos Specialists across Britain until her return to Cuba at the end of July.

Señora Hernandez began her career in the cigar industry 20 years ago and has achieved the highest grade of torcedor (cigar roller), within the Cuban industry structure, meaning she is capable of crafting any size or shape cigar within the Habanos S. A. portfolio.

More recently she has risen to the position of “Despalillo Chief” within the H. Upmann factory. It is within this part of the factory that wrapper leaves are stripped of their central vein and classified by their colour, size and quality before being passed on to the rollers. Naturally this position demands acute attention to detail, an in-depth knowledge of quality control requirements and a keen appreciation of the inherent qualities of Cuba tobacco.

Drop us a line for more details [email protected]

The weather has been amazing for the last few days (makes a change!) and I love it as our retail cigar shops are busier than ever. You can sample cigars indoors at our Mayfair Turmeaus cigar shop as well as inside and outside our West Hampstead cigar and whisky shop.

Due to many requests we are now applying for our alcohol licence for Turmeaus tobacconist shop in Liverpool where we will offer our fabulous range of Robert Graham Ltd single malt whisky and Cuban rum. Congrats to Christine and Ian at our Liverpool store for passing their licencing exam.

Well that’s all the news for now!

Peaceful puffing

I’m Baaaack!

Following a short stay in hospital I am pleased to say I am back on my feet (thanks for all the good wishes on Twitter/Facebook/emails) and straight back into routine this week with a cigar and whisky tasting at the Avista bar in the Millennium Hotel on Grosvenor Square ☺

A fun evening with around 35 attendees and organised by Lalla Kaur. We enjoyed English Market Selection Quai D’Orsay Coronas with Chivas Regal, Makers Mark Glenkinchie 12 and Macallan 15. Fabulous canapés and great company on thankfully a dry evening that finished around midnight.

Brian Ebbesen has spent most of the week in the humidor Lotting up the auction entries for our July 2nd Cigar Auction. Over 300 aged, mature and interesting Lots of cigars will be knocked down! We celebrated the completion of the catalogue with a bottle of 1970 Armagnac and some rather large Havanas!

Auction catalogue will be out in a weeks’ time and Lots will be online next week with photos of course. You can see them all on our auction website and there will also be a catalogue PDF online shortly for easier viewing.

The main Auction website is here. The Auction website has all of the selling prices from our last 5 auctions which is a great resource for valuation purposes and it’s interesting to see how prices have changed on many of the cigars over the last 3 years.

Details of the auction events are here.

This should be the best of our auctions so far as we have a pre herf arranged for Sunday 1st July at Ten Manchester Street Hotel early evening and the main event at the fabulous Boisdale Canary Wharf.

Remy Martin Cognac will be supplying us with some fabulous Cognac as well as French Mojitos, Davidoff are providing us with a cigar roller to do a cigar rolling demonstration and Cigar Journal will be reporting the event in their magazine and on their website. We will be smoking some great Havanas, Fuente and Davidoff cigars on what should be a memorable evening.

The selection of cigars in this auction is great whether you want to spend £50 or £5000- I think there is something for everyone and no doubt some bargains will be had on the night as many of the estimates look very attractive indeed.

Hunters and Frankau Summer Cigar party coming up on the 31st May and I’m looking forward to the next exclusive UK regional Punch which will make its first appearance and hopefully be released soon after.

I’ll be herfing at Turmeaus Mayfair on Wednesday morning so if you are around… drop in for a drink and a smoke

Have a smokey weekend.

Peaceful puffing,

Mitchell

Guest Post – Web Team and Events

This week we have a guest blog post from James and David, part of our dedicated Norfolk web team.

Hello to you all!

The door has been opened and we have been allowed to see a little bit of light this week. We are usually found with our hands bound to our mouse and keyboard making sure that you all can enjoy a fresh and up-to-date experience when using any of the online services that C.Gars Ltd provide.

So what have we been up to this week? Well of course it was bank holiday Monday so like I said we were set free for the day, starting by giving off smoke signals at the local golf course. Our cigar of choice was the fantastic and brilliantly reviewed Montecristo No. 4, it started off a little harsh but as it burnt down the flavours really developed and let off those superb aromas that we all know and love from the Montecristo family. After all the balls had either been lost or putted we retired for a quick dram of the 12 year old Glenfiddich. I must say this is one of my favourite whiskies for an early drink as it is just so easy on the lips!

Our Facebook is really starting to blossom, we are always updating it with plenty of things that should interest you! This week, while having a browse around on the internet, I stumbled on a fantastic vintage cigar poster from Montecristo, I’ve posted it to the Facebook wall for you all to see. If only we were still allowed to advertise in this way…

Auction time draws near and we are well under way now with preparations for the July cigar auction that will be held at the fine location of Boisdale, Canary Wharf. We have over 300 entered lots of vintage cigars such as Pre-embargo, Davidoff and Ex Dunhill so there may be a chance to grab a bargain when the gavel wielding Brian Ebbesen, our director of Cigar Auctions, takes the stage. The online Auction catalogue will be ready and complete with images within the month so you can browse at your leisure and also view the lots of our previous successful auctions here.

At the end of this month on the 31st May, the Hunters & Frankau Summer cigar party will be hosted at Middleton Garden at the Langham. The event will also see the launch of the Punch Medallo de Oro (Here’s hoping it will be as good as the 2008 Regional!) If you can make it you should definitely try to do so. Click here for more details.

In a month’s time Mrs Dilia Hernandez Ortiz of the H. Upmann factory will be rolling fresh Havana cigars before your very eyes. Come on in to our London offices between Monday 11th June – Friday 15th June as she will be in all week rolling delicious and fresh cigars of multiple sizes (plenty of Robusto’s to be had though!). Make sure you are subscribed to our UK newsletter so you can keep up with events like this in their full detail and as ever we can be contacted via [email protected] if you have any question or queries.

The weather is slowly turning more favourable for a cigar smoker but typical England weather consistency (or lack of) will keep us guessing on whether we should light up outside.

Have a magnificent weekend, please do let us know if there is any way we can improve your online shopping experience!

Tea Time!

Change of drinking pace with some palate cleansing tea 🙂 – checkout our new range of ‘Cha’ on this link quite delicious and a rather interesting (in a good way) taste sensation, with a good Havana cigar of course.

Talking of good Havanas, we’ll be smoking some of the finest English Market Selection Havanas at Hunters & Frankau’s Summer Cigar Party on May 31st – check out the details on this PDF link and book up soon as this event usually sells out very very fast! The new UK regional edition Punch is expected to be released at the event and as Punch is one of my favourite brands (I was rather involved with the choice of the Punch Serie D’Oro no.1 UK regional) I am hoping that the latest exclusive UK regional will be as good if not better.

Our Cigar Auction catalogue is now in the closing stages and I am guessing there are around 300 Lots entered of mature, vintage. Pre embargo, Davidoff, Dunhill and other great cigars. Many of the entries have extremely low reserves and estimates so there could well be some bargains to be had on July 2nd .

Auction catalogue will be in print and online 6 weeks before the event and once again our Director of Cigar Auctions Brian Ebbesen (ex Christies) will be wielding the gavel at Boisdale Canary Wharf.

If you would like to see details of our past 3 years of Cigar auctions checkout the auction website.

Viewings available as usual at our London offices and pre auction herf at Ten Manchester street on the 1st July. If you would like to be on our Auction mailing list drop me an email [email protected]

Another new cigars smoking venue opening soon at the Millennium Hotel – check out details here. Looking forward to seeing plenty of cigar smokers at the opening evening.

Weather is still a bit of a nightmare in London so outdoor smoking is not much fun yet but if you are near Mayfair you can always pop in to Turmeaus cigar shop in Shepherd Market to sample a cigar or two in our sampling room and be assured a warm welcome.

Peaceful puffing
