Up in Smoke

So we've reached the end of another action packed year and now its time to celebrate so kick back, relax, enjoy Christmas and welcome 2018!

One way to see in the new year in style is with a quality cigar and whisky.

Whilst I'm a non-smoker, I do enjoy an occasional cigar, but my knowledge in the matter is very limited. I wouldn't know a Cuban even if Fidel Castro passed me in the street! However thanks to a sophisticated, entertaining and educational evening at Turmeaus in Rollesby in Norfolk, at one of their monthly cigar and whisky tasting events, I'm now a connoisseur, well not quite but know a it more than I did two hours previously.

Turmeaus offers fine cigar and tobacco shops with branches in Liverpool, Chester, Knutsford, London & Norfolk all with sampling lounges and regular events. The Norfolk branch is the only facility of its kind in our region.

Whisky Masterclass

Turmeaus is run by CGars Ltd who are the UK's leading cigar merchant and boast a vast online shop (www.cgarsltd.co.uk) for those who know what they're doing. For novices like me, then for just £20 you can attend their tasting events. This isn't like stealing a small sample morsel at a supermarket then feigning interest before swiftly disappearing, these samples are the full-size product delivered by a specific brand sales representative whose imparted wisdom give you a real appreciation for the products, couple this with the stores own very knowledgeable and experienced staff makes the whole event very enlightening.

Action Man, and regular sidekick Kevin arrived at a packed Turmeaus store and made ourselves comfortable in the welcoming tasting lounge just as Davidoff representative Andrew Francis delivered our first cigar of the evening, an oaky yet mellow Davidoff Winston Churchill Petit Corona.

This was paired very well with a smooth yet sweet 12 year old Glendronach whisky from Matt Chambers of Whiskyforeveryone.com and whilst we enjoyed these we took a tour of the impressive store with its jar upon jar of pipe tobacco and walk in humidor. Our next cigar was a dark and intense Davidoff Winston Churchill Late Hour Robusto which I feared would be too rich for my unacclamitised palate but a proper cigar will (and did) change flavour, a fact delivered by CGars Director and the country's finest purveyor of rare cigars Mitchell Orchant, this matched our richer 18 year old Glendronach. Our third and final whisky sample of the evening was the earthy and floral Glendronach peated. The whiskies (obviously please drink responsibly folks) really did add an extra element to the cigars and all in all made for a very fine evening much to the enjoyment of all.

If, like me, you've a curiosity in cigars and whisky then I would certainly recommend attending a Turmeaus tasting event, visit www.turmeaus.co.uk for schedule and booking.
