A very small outturn for this 35-year-old Caol Ila from Hunter Laing's Old & Rare series.
Distilled in December 1980, this refill hogshead yielded just 46 bottles at a cask strength of 52.1%.
Nose: Apple, peat and endless amounts of sooty smoke - not too overbearing though with a lovely balance.
Palate: Peat with developing rich oak-y elements and barley.
Finish: Very long, with notes of orange oil and maritime air.
