The 14th annual release of Brora, part of Diageo’s Special Releases 2015, is a magnificent 37 year old 1977 vintage single malt whisky matured in refill American oak hogsheads.
A limited amount of 2976 bottles were produced with each bottling being individually numbered which makes this whisky highly collectable and rare.
The distillery closed in 1983, but a small amount of maturing stock remains, at least for a few more short years.
Numbered 91 of 2976.
Nose: Subtle smokiness, lime, kiwi, sweet waved fruit, white pepper and creamy nuttiness.
Palate: Gentle and balanced sweetness, rounded and rich with honey notes, nuts, tropical fruits, baked apples with hints of spice as well as a subtle integrated smokiness.
Finish: Syrupy and satisfying long finish, floral with delicate charcoal notes.
Whiskey fun has scored Brora 37yo 2015 Special Release 95/100 overall on the blog.
Serge describes this whiskey as ‘one of 2015’s grands crus, no doubt, together with some of the Karuizawas.’
