A fantastic vintage from Benromach and owners Gordon & Macphail!
A fine aged Benromach distilled in 1976, before a maturation period of 36 years spent in the finest Sherry casks.
It's well known that G&M have some of the best casks in the industry and this is further evidence - a fruity and fresh tasting whisky with enough elegant oak influence to let you know that you're drinking something special.
Should be a super fruit bomb, well worth trying given the reputation of these mid-late 1970s stocks at Benromach.
Nose: Honeysuckle, Turkish Delight, candy, soft caramel, charcoal, biscuits, orange cream and fruity dark chocolate.
Palate: Soft brown sugar and floral syrup before some bitterness rolls in - fragrant wood with some dark edges. Sweetness balances the oak with some hints of custard, hints of coal smoke and a light oiliness.
Finish: Fresh floral touches and lingering sweet cream.
Jim Murray has scored this Benromach Vintage 1976 (Bottled 2012) as 89.5/100 in his 2020 Whisky Bible.
'A very comfortable and satisfying ride'.
