A fantastic vintage from Benromach and owners Gordon & Macphail!

A fine aged Benromach distilled in Speyside 1976, before a maturation period spent in the finest Sherry casks.

It's well known that G&M have some of the best casks in the industry and this is further evidence - a fruity and fresh tasting whisky with enough elegant oak influence to let you know that you're drinking something special.

Should be a super fruit bomb, well worth trying given the reputation of these mid-late 1970s stocks at Benromach.

Jim Murray has scored this Benromach a 89.5/100 in his 2015 Whisky Bible, describing it as ' a very comfortable and satisfying ride'

Tasting Notes

Nose: Honeysuckle, Turkish Delight, candy teeth, soft caramel, charcoal, Nice biscuits, Quality Street orange creams and fruity dark chocolate.

Palate: Soft brown sugar and floral syrup before some bitterness rolls in - fragrant wood with some dark edges. Sweetness balances the oak with some hints of custard, as well as old polished wood (waxed then spray polished), hints of coal smoke and a light oiliness.

Finish: Freshly planed deal, floral touches, chalky refreshers and lingering sweet cream.

Taste Test

exotic fruit is expected...and doesn't disappoint; yawns a little from tiredness here and there; a silky, mouth-watering though attractively tart. Any blender looking to ensure the malty but exotic frame to an old blend would be searching in his arsenal for a series of Speysiders just like this; mainly vanilla and cocoa attributes to be expected. That said....a very comfortable and satisfying ride.

LOVE this whisky. In a small glass of this you get so much character. A taste ranging from oak to vanilla, this whisky really does tease your taste buds. Only a small amount of peat leaves the lovely sweet taste coming through. A delightful dessert whisky.
