This single vintage release from The Balvenie is the result of trials undertaken by Malt Master David Stewart and former Distillery Manager Ian Millar in 2001.

Harking back to a time when Speyside distilleries used peat to fire their kilns, Peat Week refers to the one week in the year that the distillery reverts to this traditional method.

For one week each year, Balvenie reverts to its old-world method of using peat to fire its kilns.

This 2003 limited edition bottling is a result of that process, aged for 14 years in American oak casks and showcasing notes of vanilla, peat, smoke, oak and butterscotch.

David Stewart MBE, Balvenie malt master, said: “Much like the 2002 vintage, this 2003 bottling of Peat Week still retains that classic Balvenie house style, with delicate butterscotch honey and creamy vanilla, but with an added layer of gentle sweet peat smoke.

“As a malt master it’s hugely important that I can manage our stocks closely, while also being able to innovate and trial flavours not typically associated with The Balvenie.

“This 2003 vintage is a prime example of this – a Balvenie presented in an unexpected way, yet still remaining true to the distillery style our enthusiasts enjoy.”
