Maduro wrappers, if cured and processed properly, produce a rich and sweet taste that is truly unique. Few cigar makers can afford the time and money to process the maduro wrapper as it should be done, very slowly and naturally. Maduro wrappers can take as much as two years longer than other wrappers to reach its peak qualities.
The wrappers grown exclusively for Ashton Maduros are carefully selected and graded. They are then sent to their factory where they are, once again, selected and graded and the incredibly slow process of natural fermentation and aging begins.
The bunches of wrapper leaves are placed in large round piles or bulks where they naturally cure. When the heat in the middle of the bulk reaches a specific temperature it is turned over. This is done a minimum of six times until their experts are assured the leaves have reached their "peak of sweetness." The leaves are then put in bales where they age one more year and slowly mature. Only through this long, slow process does the natural richness and sweetness of the maduro leaf reach its full potential.
After this aging is completed the wrappers are re-selected. Only 15% of the aged wrappers are chosen for Ashton Aged Maduros. When you choose to smoke an Ashton Aged Maduro, you are guaranteed the finest Maduro wrapper that Mother Nature can offer.
