A 1996 vintage Ardmore from independent bottlers Gordon and Macphail, bottled in 2013.
The distillery are known for producing peated whisky, despite being in the relatively peat free region of Speyside.
Matured in refill Sherry hogsheads from 1996 to 2013, Gordon & Macphail bottled this stunning whisky for their Distillery Labels series, which presents whiskies with labels that hark back to past bottlings.
The colour is dark Gold and it has a medium body. The finish is long, smooth with a hint of smoke. Filled with red fruit, green apple and cracked black pepper notes, and a good touch of peat too.
Very curious Ardore, showing little of its usual dexterity. Perhaps slightly more heavily peated than the norm, but there is also much more intense heavy caramel extracted from the wood. Soft, very pleasant and easy drinking it is almost obsequious.
